Sedation Therapy

Sedation Dentistry Can Make Dental Visits More Comfortable

For some patients, visiting the dentist can cause anxiety or discomfort. This may stem from a past experience, a fear of dental procedures, or challenges related to understanding the treatment process. At Setai Dental, we offer sedation options to help ensure a more relaxed and comfortable experience during your dental care.

Choosing the Type of Sedation

01

There are several types of sedation available, and the appropriate option depends on the procedure and your level of anxiety.

02

Options may include nitrous oxide (laughing gas), oral medication, IV sedation, or general anesthesia.

03

Many of these options allow you to remain conscious but in a deeply relaxed state, sometimes referred to as "twilight sleep."

Your dentist will discuss the options with you and provide a recommendation based on your specific needs and preferences.

Sedation Therapy Questions?

Sedation therapy is commonly used to help patients feel more comfortable during dental procedures. It is administered by trained professionals, and side effects are uncommon, but patients should discuss potential risks with their dentist. Patients will need someone to accompany them home afterward, as driving will not be possible. If you have questions about sedation therapy, feel free to contact us to learn more or to schedule an appointment.

FAQs About Sedation Therapy

Do I have a choice of which type of sedation therapy I use?
The patient always has input into whether they want sedation therapy and the type used. Our recommendation for the type of sedation therapy to be used depends on your general health, your preference, and the type of procedure done.
The three primary types of sedation therapy, which include nitrous oxide, oral medication, and IV, will put you in a twilight sleep. You will be able to answer the oral surgeon’s or dentist’s questions but may drift into sleep on and off. Drifting into sleep occurs more with the IV therapy than the others. General anesthesia makes you unconscious throughout the procedure.
Side effects rarely happen with sedation therapy but patients are monitored throughout the procedure. That includes blood pressure, breathing, and oxidation levels. We can bring a patient out of therapy quickly if necessary.
You can go back to work or school the next day. It will leave you feeling sleepy or sluggish so you should take the rest of the day off.
A patient using sedation therapy won’t have a hangover as most people know it but will be sleepy. They are unable to drive so will need a ride home.
Sedation will wear off quickly but we recommend drinking water and eating something light. You may need to take a nap.
